October 1, 2023 - Worship at 11:00 a.m. Please join us for coffee, cookies, and conversation in the fellowship hall after worship
Two new members of the church were welcomed last Sunday during worship.
Shirley Laffrey joined as an Active Member: I was born in Quebec, Canada, and lived there until I graduated from High School. I was raised in the Catholic Church. My husband, David, and I were married in 1968 and I became a U.S. citizen in 1993. My professional life was in nursing. After several years in acute care and community health nursing, I earned Master's and Phd degrees and joined the faculty of universities in Michigan, San Francisco, and Austin. In these positions, I combined teaching, practice, and research. My research was the study of the effects of physical exercise in older Mexican-American women. After retirement, I lived in Florida and most recently in Macon Georgia. My interests include gardening, crafts, hiking, and reading. Shirley’s email:
Jackie Rullman joined as an Affiliate Member: I grew up in Shelby, North Carolina, where I attended Aldersgate United Methodist Church and was an active member of the youth group. In high school, I played volleyball and tennis. In 2020 I was accepted into Appalachian State but could not attend in person due to COVID. The following year I came to Boone where I majored in history and pledged Sigma Alpha Omega sorority. I have played guitar since I was eight and have always enjoyed playing in church. I will graduate summa cum laude in December with university and departmental honors and have accepted a job working in a law office in Boone. I hope to attend law school next fall. Jackie’s email:
